Lord of the Rings

We are prepared for 13 hours and 27 minutes of Lord of the Rings tomorrow. We have our snacks, energy drinks, and pb&j's all ready. I also have a bag of throat drops packed so I can survive tomorrow.

And with that, I will leave you with this photo I saw. Look familiar?

Under the Weather

First off, I love this version of "The Night Out" by Martin Solveig. The cowbell at end makes me smile. My favorite line is, "I know I'm a nerd, so give another play to this song." I just need some feel good music this week. I'm getting sick and finals week is almost here. I'm ready for this semester to be over with! Then I'll have winter break and classes for 3 weeks :)

Again, I just want to feel better. I'm eating so many cough drops and drinking hot tea, it's getting out of hand ha

Stornoway

Stornoway is live streaming their concert at http://aroomforlondon.co.uk/sounds-from-a-room

So far they have been playing all new material, which is getting me very excited for their March 2013 release.

The Vaccines

This is a fun cover.  I can't even remember how I came across it.  Enjoy!

The Vaccines - Last Friday Night

New things

So a few friends and I tried out this new bar called Havana Garage. It's a cigar bar and it was quite interesting. Not a huge fan of smoking cigars, but I like the smell of them. Omaha is getting some interesting places lately.

Airborne Toxic Event

I just found out that the Airborne Toxic Event is doing a New Year's Eve show in Chicago this year.  That just adds to the list of New Year's Eve shows I want to go to.  Butch Walker is doing one in Chicago and the Avett Brothers will be in North Carolina.

Airborne Toxic Event is such a great band.  I'm looking forward to their new album!

It's been awhile

So let's see.

Canada was a lot of fun.  We spent the majority of our time in Winnipeg and spent a day at Lake Winnipeg.  That was probably my favorite day that we spent in Canada.  A lot of the people we met asked why we decided to visit Winnipeg opposed to the bigger cities in Canada.  The truth?  It was a straight shot up from Omaha.  The easiest drive and wanted to go somewhere we haven't been before.

Our drive to Lake Winnipeg
School has started back up and I am proud to say that this will be my last Fall semester.  I am finally graduating next Summer.  Going to have a Bachelors in Business Administration with my concentration in Management and minors in Marketing and Gerontology.  This has been a long road and I am so ready to be done.  I decided to pick up the Gerontology degree a couple weeks ago, so this will be interesting.

I've also started taking Korean classes to prepare myself for my trip to South Korea next summer.  I am going there in hopes of meeting my birth family.  I've learned how to write my birth name in Korean as well.  It's 은 숙 박, which translates to Eun Sook Park.  Busy busy this season.
The Wombats

As far as music goes...

Haven't really been to any concerts since Maha.  I was able to finally see the Wombats last month and that was a lot of fun.  Being the nerd I am, got to meet them afterwards and Matthew recognized me.  That was fun.  Oh and we took our friend Patrick to see Mumford and Sons.  It was at this venue called Pinewood Bowl and it was so lovely there.  I worked the shows for Train, Mat Kearney, and Crosby, Stills & Nash at the venue over summer.  I wish Omaha had a venue like that.  It was an outdoor venue.  Also, Motion City Soundtrack is coming here, but not sure if I can make it because of class.

I had such high hopes for the music releases in September, but have only really enjoyed The Avett Brothers, "The Carpenter."  My suggested listening for this album is, "Live and Die" and "I Never Knew You."  There are plenty of other great songs on the album, but those are good starters.  Mumford and Sons was alright.  The only song I really like off that album is, "Below My Feet."  I've been listening to a lot of Frank Turner and Angels & Airwaves a lot lately.

The Wombats
Five friends and I spent a weekend in Minneapolis visiting some friends last month.  Our friends wife invited us girls to ScrapFest at Mall of America.  No, it was not a music festival... It was a scrapbooking festival.  I have never seen anything like it before.  It was lines upon lines of people waiting to make a free craft.  Making cards and such can be fun, but that was just too extreme for us.  Surprisingly we were all able to share a hotel room!

Well that's about it!

Maha is Over

The Maha Music Festival is over... for the year.  Still have a couple loose ends to tie up, but other then that, I can breathe now.  This year was our biggest yet.  I was in charge of the 300 volunteers who assisted a crowd of 4300 people.  I got to meet Garbage, which was the highlight of my day.

Here's a review for the festival: http://www.omaha.com/article/20120811/GO/120819957/1685#maha-rocked-rain-and-shine

MAHA Music Festival - Update

I feel like a huge weight has just been lifted off my shoulders.

A few minutes ago I finished entering in all our 200+ volunteer shift information.  Volunteering opens up this weekend for our sponsors, and than the following week it is opened to the public.  Tickets are selling a lot quicker than any of our previous years.  It might have something to do with our fantastic line-up!

Our main stage includes: Desaparecidos, GARBAGE, Delta Spirit, Dum Dum Girls, Josh Rouse, and Conduits

Our local stage includes: The Mynabirds, Icky Blossoms, UUVVWWZ, Universe Contest, Eli Mardock, and The Seen

More good news, our curfew has been pushed back to midnight this year (prior years we had an 11 PM curfew)!  This means more music for the fans!

Do You Wanna Dance?

The Beach Boys "Do You Wanna Dance"

I could spend days watching all these old performances.  This is one of my favorites by the Beach Boys.  I'll continue posting some of my other favorite performances throughout the year.  There's so many things I love about this era of music!

I'm really enjoying Mike Love's little dance, which sometimes has a small sample of a moonwalk.  But it's hard to get over those striped shirts.  Although I am not a big fan of Foster the People, it was great seeing them in blue and white striped shirts when they performed with the Beach Boys at this year's Grammys.  If you haven't seen this performance, check it out here!

Daytrotter

If you haven't heard of Daytrotter, it is a website that hosts recording sessions with many musicians. You can download these sessions to your computer or continue streaming them on the website. This weekend they were celebrating their 2000th session with a special on their annual subscription price ($20). Since my friend had been talking about this site for sometime, I decided to check it out and was pretty amazed by their list of artists. I bought that subscription and continued to download about 30 of those sessions. Some of my favorite sessions are The Avett Brothers, Two Door Cinema Club, Johnny Flynn, The Vaccines, Noah and the Whale, and Kevin Devine. There's still so many more that I am excited to listen to!

The Beach Boys

The Beach Boys' new album, "That's Why God Made the Radio", is coming out this Tuesday. I've listened to a couple samples of the album and am getting pretty excited about it! I saw them a couple years ago here in Omaha performing with the Omaha Symphony. It was really cool to see them perform all of their songs with the symphony behind them. The symphony all dressed in their Hawaiian shirts to add to the festivities. Some may say that it’s silly that these men are writing songs at their age, but I think they’re writing music for a whole new generation of fans.

The Avett Brothers

This is one of my summer concerts I am really looking forward to! I have heard nothing but great thing about their live shows, which is making me really excited. I will go just to hear this song and see them jam out to it. They do it about two and half minutes into this performance.

The Association

Sometimes I watch this just for the band member introductions. It cracks me up every time.

The Kinks

This is one of my favorite songs by them. It will definitely be a part of my summer playlist.

MAHA Music Festival

Pre-sale tickets are now on sale for the MAHA Music Festival! We've already sold over half of the pre-sale tickets in an hour. I've already received an email inquiring about volunteering. And the lineup is going to be announced in six days!!! Pretty excited for the line-up this year.

MAHA Music Festival

The letterhead for the MAHA Music Festival has finalized! It looks awesome, and it's a great feeling seeing my name on it. I spent much of the morning learning our new volunteer software. It seems like it's a step up from the software we used last year, but I feel that it might be a little confusing for everyone. After I figure out all the ins and outs, I will have to make some sort of instructional page for all our 200+ volunteers.

Frank Turner

"If Ever I Stray"

A friend recently introduced me to Frank Turner. I'm loving all of his stuff so far! I definitely did not expect this sound. It's great and just what I needed to hear.

"Photosynthesis"

The Beatles

"I Need You" from The Beatles' movie, Help!

Ringo at :58 makes me laugh every time.

I cannot believe they are remaking "Yellow Submarine". http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1497630/

Idlewild

"Actually It's Darkness"

One of my favorite songs by Idlewild

The Turtles

This song contains one of my favorite lines, "You're my pride and joy, etc."

It's so simple, but I love it. I'm happy to say that the Turtles were my first concert experience. Granted I was 10 and there were only two of the original members, but I can remember like it was yesterday.

Stornoway

This album is fantastic. I listen to it all the time!

This full performance is available as a free podcast on iTunes.

Annabelle's Curse

I arrived home yesterday morning from a trip to Tennessee. The 14-15 hour drive was beautiful, but am grateful to be back home. While there, I came across this wonderful band, Annabelle's Curse. Their album is free on their Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/zedwards08). Definitely worth checking out!

The Wombats

Really enjoying this song off their most recent album, This Modern Glitch.
It's been about a year... Here's another go at this blog.

Hopefully I can continue it this time!
